Afterlife – India Clausen

On the 28th February, India Clausen came to give a talk. She is a recent graduate from Bournemouth University and is now working at Weclick Media. She shared quite a lot about her past experiences at both university through to her first job.

I found it really refreshing to have a young female designer come in to talk to us because it not only gave us an insight into what its like to be a recent graduate entering the industry but also what is expected when preparing for graduation. One thing I really enjoyed was seeing India’s progression from first year through to third year and the increase in quality within her work, it just shows that with practice and effort the work will improve.

I also found it interesting hearing her transition from university through to her first job. She said that its not as scary as you think and that its okay not to know everything – don’t be afraid to ask, people will want to help. A key point made was to learn off each other and bounce ideas off each other; ‘Industry is highly competitive, use the studio, support each other.’ this is definitely something to take note of whilst I’m currently in university, using the studio and my peers to my advantage to prepare myself for working in industry.

She did also give us some tips…

  • Learn different software.
  • Enjoy the work you’re doing.
  • Do put your all into it.
  • Justify everything.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the talk and took quite a lot from it, mostly to build good relationships with your peers in order to bounce ideas of one another and support each other to help you become the best you can be. It was nice to have advice given to us from a young, newly graduated perspective.
