Image Movement/ Time

We have been given a brief to resemble David Hockney’s ‘joiners’ which are multiple image compositions that not only display a moment in time, but also what is anticipated to happen next. He reveals a journey through looking around the edges and with that presents life. Although the composition reveals much of what is happening, the audience can still derive their own narrative of what may happen next, which I quite like about them.

Here are two examples given to us, the image on the left revealing a collaboration between multiple people and the image on the right revealing an anticipated journey.

We have therefore been asked to create something similar to this where the overall image must indicate either a, collaboration between a minimum of three people or a journey.

For this project I was able to work with Ffion in order to create a sense of journey.

This is what we managed to create. The image was black and white with small elements of red to highlight the figure and to draw the viewer’s attention. The composition of the image was also carefully considered through the use of the zebra crossing and the figure walking away into the distance, creating a sense of depth.

This was our final piece and overall I am very pleased with the outcome, I feel we have managed to convey a sense of journey with the changes in opacity also helping to create a sense of movement. I also like the hint of colour as it makes the image pop and stand out.
