Hierarchy in Typography

This lecture on the hierarchy of typography was a lot to take in, it was also a lot to try and get your head around, particularly with the grid systems in my opinion. It was helpful having been given the In Design workshop as I was introduced to grid systems then, but didn’t fully understand their purpose. However, after this lecture I do now understand their importance (even though the maths can get slightly confusing at times) but once I was shown numerous examples, I understood the structure used within some magazines.

I found this to be a very interesting lecture on the whole as it brought things back to the basics about remembering the importance of the hierarchy and the way an audience reads a piece of text, whether it be a magazine or poster etc. It is about understanding what you are designing as well as being able to design.

This is definitely something that I will be going back and referring to as I feel it is something that I will be taking forward and remembering, particularly for the type specimen poster design project we have all been given.

I quite like this image as it simplifies the importance of hierarchy, and is a simple way to remember it when going forward and creating my own designs.
